Description
The Nordic 40 is a respected American bluewater cruiser-racer designed by renowned naval architect Robert Perry (known for seaworthy, balanced designs like the Valiant 40). Built by Nordic Yachts in Bellingham, Washington, USA, from 1982 to 1991, exactly 32 hulls were produced in fiberglass (GRP) with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder for protection, excellent tracking, and responsive performance in varied conditions. It features a masthead sloop rig, high build quality with teak interior accents (typically 2 cabins with 6–7 berths, spacious galley, heads, nav station, and ample tankage/storage for extended coastal or offshore cruising), and a strong reputation as a fast, capable passagemaker (proven in long voyages with stiff stability, comfortable motion, and excellent light-to-moderate air performance).
