Ohlson 38 (Tufglass 38)
Description
The Ohlson 38 is a classic Swedish fiberglass cruiser-racer designed by Einar Ohlson (Swedish naval architect, known for elegant, high-performance designs in the 1960s–1970s IOR era, including Olympic 5.5m keelboats). Built from 1969 to 1980 (with some later completions), 129 hulls were produced, primarily with hulls molded by Tyler Boat Co. Ltd. (UK) and finished by Malo Yachts (Sweden) or other yards (e.g., Robertson & Sons in Scotland). Available in sloop or yawl rig (yawl variant adds a small mizzen for balanced handling, heavy-weather ease, and motorsailing), with traditional or reverse transom versions. A kit version (from Tyler) was sold as the Tufglass 38. It features a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for protection, tracking, and responsive performance, solid GRP construction (strong and durable), and a spacious, practical interior (typically 5–6 berths with V-forward, settees, galley, heads, and storage for coastal/offshore cruising). Renowned for speed (proven race wins, ocean crossings), seaworthiness, beautiful balance, and timeless beauty—often called "a boat for all reasons" and still raced as a classic in vintage fleets.
