Macgregor Canoe 17' 3"
Description
The MacGregor Canoe at 17' 3" (the longest variant in Iain Oughtred's series) scales up from the base plans (originally 13' 7") by adjusting mold spacing and stem profiles. This version offers more carrying capacity, stability under sail, and room for two people paddling/sailing comfortably while retaining the elegant, double-paddle-capable decked canoe lines. Oughtred's plans provide hull offsets/patterns, but sail dimensions are proportional and flexible (builder/sailmaker choice). The rig is typically a balanced lug yawl (main + small mizzen) or single lug (cat rig) for simplicity, low stress, and easy raising/lowering when switching to paddle. No traditional I/J/P/E measurements exist (unstayed lug/gunter rig without fixed foretriangle).
