morbic 12

morbic 12

Description

The Morbic 12 is a 12-foot (3.66 m) glued-lapstrake plywood daysailer and sail-and-oar dinghy designed by French naval architect François Vivier. It was created as a modern, practical small craft inspired by the historic International 12-foot racing dinghy (an Olympic class until 1928) and traditional Brittany inshore fishing boats, offering a blend of performance, stability, and ease of use for 1–3 crew. Vivier designed it with a flat bottom for easy beaching/hauling, more beam and freeboard than the classic 12-footer for comfort and carrying capacity, and a balanced lug rig (or optional sloop lug with jib) for efficient, easy handling. It's built using glued-lapstrake plywood (CNC kits available) and is a favorite among amateur builders for its beauty, seaworthiness (rated Category C for coastal waters up to Force 6 and 2 m waves), and versatility under sail, oar, or small outboard.
