Sadler 29
Description
The Sadler 29 is a British family cruiser-racer sailboat designed by David Sadler, built by Sadler Yachts (later Sadler International) in Poole, UK; introduced in 1981 as a smaller sibling to the Sadler 32 and produced until 1988, with over 400 units constructed (making it one of the best-selling models in the Sadler range during its run). It features innovative "unsinkable" double-skinned fiberglass construction with strategically placed polyurethane foam-filled cavities between the hull and inner liner (inspired by 1979 Fastnet Race survivability lessons, allowing the boat to remain buoyant and stable even if flooded), masthead sloop rig, transom-hung rudder, and multiple keel options including deep fin (standard), shallow fin, bilge/twin keels (popular for drying out), for versatility in coastal, estuary, or drying mooring scenarios; the practical interior offers berths for 5-6 (V-berth forward, saloon settees convertible to doubles, quarter berth), compact galley, enclosed head, navigation area, and reasonable headroom, with a secure cockpit and high coamings; it delivers solid seaworthiness, stiffness from its high ballast ratio (~41-42%), responsive and predictable handling, good upwind performance, excellent light-air capability from its generous sail plan, and a tough, well-mannered ride suitable for family cruising, club racing, or occasional offshore passages, earning praise as a versatile all-rounder with a cult following for durability and value.
