Soverel 27
Description
The Soverel 27 is a 26.52-foot fractional sloop designed by Mark Soverel as a lightweight MORC (Midget Ocean Racing Club) rule racer. It was built in fiberglass by Tartan Marine (under the Soverel product line) between 1986 and 1987. Production was very limited — roughly 27 boats were completed before Tartan discontinued the entire Soverel line. The boat features a beamy, light-displacement hull optimized for performance, with a fin keel, spade rudder, and running backstays on some setups, making it quick and responsive in club PHRF racing or daysailing while offering basic accommodations for short cruises. Key features include solid early fiberglass construction, a large cockpit, and lively sailing characteristics suited to light-air and reaching conditions. It is a relatively rare model today, with occasional examples on the used market often set up for racing with upgraded rigging and sail inventories.
