Starrett 45

Starrett 45

Description

The Starrett 45 is a 45‑foot bluewater cruising ketch designed by William Atkin and built by Starrett & Son (USA) during the 1930s and 1940s. As one of Atkins' most celebrated designs, it was constructed in very limited numbers (fewer than 10 hulls), all as custom plank‑on‑frame wooden yachts for discerning owners. The Starrett 45 is renowned for its heavy displacement, double‑ender hull, ketch rig for balanced sail handling, and exceptional seaworthiness. Features include a protected cockpit, deep bilge, generous tankage, and a warm, traditional interior—hallmarks of Atkins' conservative, offshore‑oriented philosophy. Surviving examples are among the most prized classic yachts today.
