Steelaway by Perry

Description

Steelaway is not a production sailboat but a one‑off custom steel cruising ketch designed by Bob Perry and built in 1981 by Queen Long Marine Industrial Co. (Taiwan). The boat was commissioned by its original owner as a rugged, go‑anywhere bluewater cruiser and represents Perry's early work with steel construction. At approximately 42 feet LOA, Steelaway features Perry's signature double‑ender hull, heavy steel plate construction, ketch rig for balanced sail handling, and a utilitarian but comfortable cruising layout. The design emphasizes strength, seaworthiness, and simplicity—hallmarks of Perry's approach to steel yachts—with a protected cockpit, generous tankage, and offshore capabilities.
