Super Porpoise

Super Porpoise

Description

The Super Porpoise was created as an affordable, durable alternative in the booming 1960s board-boat scene. It shares the lateen rig and overall "sit-on-top" style with the iconic Sunfish and Sailfish but offers a slightly larger sail for better light-air performance and a more substantial build. There was also an earlier "Porpoise" model, with the "Super" version representing an upgraded or expanded offering. It evolved in the late 1960s/early 1970s alongside similar clones like the Phantom or Scorpion. Many parts (especially sails, mast rings, and some hardware) are interchangeable or adaptable with Sunfish components, though the rudder/tiller setup is somewhat unique (often a wooden blade with lead weighting for balance, which some describe as clunky by modern standards).
