Swan 40 (1970-1972 Short Rig)

Swan 40 (1970-1972 Short Rig)

Description

The Swan 40 Short Rig is the original 40‑foot (12.19 m) Sparkman & Stephens design built by Nautor Swan (Finland) from 1970 to 1972, with 13 hulls produced in conservative "short rig" configuration for cruising/offshore stability. Compared to later tall rig versions, the short rig prioritized balance over outright speed while retaining legendary Swan quality (teak decks, mahogany interior, fin keel/spade rudder). Competitive in early IOR events with excellent build and sailing characteristics.
