Swan 47 Tall Rig
Description
The Swan 47 Tall Rig is the high-performance variant of the classic Swan 47 offshore cruiser-racer, designed by Sparkman & Stephens (S&S design #2201) and built by Oy Nautor AB in Finland between 1975 and 1984. Of the total ~70 Swan 47 hulls produced, a number were equipped with the Tall Rig option, which features a taller mast (approximately 2 feet higher than the standard rig) for increased sail area, better light-air performance, and improved upwind ability while maintaining the boat’s proven bluewater seaworthiness and elegant S&S lines. It shares the same high-quality fiberglass construction, teak decks and interior joinery, fin keel with skeg-mounted rudder (or centerboard versions), and practical masthead sloop rig as the standard model, but the taller rig makes it particularly popular among owners seeking more power in lighter winds without sacrificing the boat’s balance or stiffness.
