Swan 53
Description
The Swan 53 (also known as the Swan 53 Mk I) is a powerful performance cruiser-racer designed by Germán Frers and built by Oy Nautor AB in Finland from 1987 to 1995, with 50 hulls completed. It marked an important step in the Frers era at Nautor, evolving from earlier IOR-influenced designs toward more modern, beamy hull forms with greater interior volume and stability while retaining excellent sailing qualities for both club racing and long-distance bluewater cruising. The boat features high-quality fiberglass construction (solid hull with cored deck), elegant teak decks and Burmese teak interior joinery, a spacious cockpit with lines led aft for shorthanded sailing, and a practical masthead sloop rig (a taller rig option was also available). A centerboard variant existed for shallower draft flexibility in some cases.
