Tatoosh 51 Ketch
Description
The Tatoosh 51 Ketch was designed by Robert Perry and built by Ta Shing Yacht Building Ltd. in Taiwan from 1983 to 1984, representing the flagship of the Tatoosh line conceived as a serious blue-water passage maker prioritizing absolute seaworthiness and structural integrity over lightweight racing trends of the era. This 50.58-foot vessel featured fiberglass construction with hand-fitted teak joinery, a fin keel with rudder on skeg configuration, and was available in both cutter and ketch configurations with the ketch version carrying 1,240 square feet of sail area. Production was extremely limited during the brief two-year run, making surviving examples quite rare among Ta Shing's output, which also included the famous Mason and Norseman series built to the same rigorous construction standards in Tainan, Taiwan.
