Tayana 52
Description
The Tayana 52 was designed by Robert Perry and built by Ta Yang Yacht Building Co. Ltd. in Taiwan from 1983 to 1991, representing the pinnacle of Taiwan's Golden Age boatbuilding era as a flagship model that bridged production yachts and custom builds. This 52.42-foot cutter-rigged sailboat featured hand-laminated fiberglass construction with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder configuration, displacing 38,570 pounds with 14,800 pounds of ballast and drawing 6.5 feet (5.67 feet shoal option available). Built as a semi-custom yacht with varying interior arrangements, it was available in both aft cockpit and center cockpit configurations, offering a waterline length of 42.08 feet, beam of 15 feet, and carrying 1,158 square feet of sail area powered by a Perkins or Yanmar 72 HP diesel engine with 115 gallons each of fuel and water capacity. Perry described this design as having the sweetest sheer he ever drew, and it was engineered as a high-performance cruiser capable of 200-mile days with excellent tracking characteristics that made it popular among circumnavigators.
