Tayana Vancouver 42
Description
The Vancouver 42 was designed by Canadian naval architect Robert Harris and built by Ta Yang Yacht Building Co. Ltd. in Taiwan beginning in 1979 as a successor to the Robert Perry-designed Tayana 37. Approximately 200 units were constructed over several decades in three configurations: 130 aft-cockpit cruisers, 70 center-cockpit versions, and 5 rare pilothouse variants. Built with solid fiberglass and polyester laminate hulls (vinylester resin after 1992), the boat features woodblock cored decks, 11,800 pounds of encapsulated iron ballast, and semi-custom construction allowing significant interior variation. At 41.75 feet LOA with 12.50-foot beam and 5.83-foot draft, this heavy displacement cruiser (29,147 lbs) carries 942 square feet of sail area in a cutter rig configuration.
