Tayana Vancouver 37 (CT 37, Ta Yang 37)
Description
The Tayana 37 (also known as the Vancouver 37) was designed by American naval architect Robert Perry and built by Ta Yang Yacht Building Co. in Taiwan from 1976 to 1992, with approximately 588-600 units produced over its 16-year production run. Originally commissioned by Will Eckert of Flying Dutchman Yachts and C.T. Chen of Ta Yang, this design was initially called the CT 37, then Ta Chiao 37, and Ta Yang 37 before settling on the Tayana 37 name. This 37-foot cutter-rigged sailboat became one of the most successful bluewater cruisers of its era, featuring fiberglass construction with teak wood trim and teak decks, a modified long keel with cutaway forefoot, and keel-mounted rudder controlled by wheel steering. The vessel displaces 22,500 pounds with 8,000 pounds of iron ballast, draws 5.67 feet, and carries 861 square feet of sail area in its standard cutter configuration, though a few were built with optional ketch rig.
