Tayana Vancouver 52
Description
The Tayana Vancouver 52 was designed by Robert Perry and built by Ta Yang Yacht Building Co. Ltd. in Taiwan from 1983 to 1991 as the flagship of the Tayana line during the 1980s. This 52.42-foot cutter-rigged bluewater cruiser featured hand-laminated fiberglass construction with PVC foam sandwich hull, internal cast iron ballast, and hand-fitted teak joinery, representing Ta Yang's commitment to structural integrity over lightweight racing trends of the era. Production was limited during the 8-year run, making surviving examples relatively rare among Ta Yang's output, with the boat constructed to the same rigorous standards as their renowned Mason and Norseman lines. At 38,570 pounds displacement with 14,800 pounds of cast iron ballast, 6.50-foot draft, and 1,158 square feet of sail area, this heavy displacement cruiser achieved excellent stability and seaworthiness with Perry's signature styling, featuring a fin keel with skeg-mounted rudder configuration that provided remarkable tracking characteristics and rudder protection for extended ocean passages.
