Terrapin 21

Terrapin 21

Description

The Terrapin 21 is a small, light-displacement sailboat designed by Reuel B. Parker featuring a gaff-rigged configuration that offers spirited performance with variable draft capabilities for versatility across different sailing conditions. This 21-foot vessel measures 24.5 feet LOA with a 20.08-foot LWL, 8-foot beam, and displaces 2,050 pounds with a variable draft system ranging from 0.75 feet (board up) to 5.0 feet (board down). The boat features sophisticated cold-molded wood/epoxy/fabric construction with double diagonal marine plywood planks over keelson plank, bilge stringers and chine logs for the bottom, 3/8" marine plywood sides with butt blocks and taped exterior joints, and 3/8" marine plywood decks over sawn beams, all covered with epoxy-impregnated Xynole-polyester cloth and finished with linear polyurethane paint systems. The traditional gaff rig utilizes solid Douglas fir spars for the mast, gaff, and booms, while the interior features painted plywood trimmed with varnished hardwoods. The design incorporates 800 pounds of ballast (either all lead or a combination of 400 pounds lead with 400 pounds water ballast), making it an ideal choice for weekend cruising, day sailing, or club racing with excellent shallow-water access and trailering capabilities.
