Tandem Island Kayak (TI)

Tandem Island Kayak (TI)

Description

The TI (short for Tandem Island) is a popular 18.5-foot sailing/pedaling kayak (often described as a sailing trimaran kayak) manufactured by Hobie. It is the two-person (tandem) version of Hobie's Adventure Island series, designed by Hobie Alter (founder of Hobie Cat). Introduced in the mid-2000s and still in production with ongoing updates (including 2025 models), it has seen significant numbers built as a recreational and adventure platform—hundreds if not thousands sold worldwide. The TI converts a sit-on-top tandem kayak into a stable trimaran by adding removable outriggers (amas), a mast, and sail, while retaining the signature MirageDrive pedal system for propulsion when not sailing.
