Tirrik
Description
The Tirrik (sometimes spelled Tirrrik) is a 16' 9"–16' 10" (LOA 5.13 m) double-ended beach boat / daysailer designed by renowned Scottish naval architect Iain Oughtred. It draws inspiration from traditional Shetland yoles and Ness-type boats, updated with modern glued clinker (lapstrake) plywood construction for ease of amateur building. It is a plans-based design (with optional kits available from suppliers like Denman Marine or Classic Marine), with a modest but growing number of examples built worldwide since the early 2000s by home builders and small professional yards. The boat is intended as a versatile sail-and-oar craft suitable for single handing or a couple, with good rowing performance, comfortable side benches, and excellent sailing qualities in coastal or protected waters.
