Tom Cat,William Garden' 130sqft Gaff sail
Description
Tom Cat is a charming 12'6" shoal-draft gaff-rigged catboat designed by the legendary naval architect William "Bill" Garden. Garden, a highly prolific and respected designer known for practical, beautiful wooden boats with classic lines, created Tom Cat as a small, Beetle Cat-inspired daysailer. It features a handsome cuddy cabin, generous beam for stability, and traditional character that makes it appealing for gunkholing, family sailing, or solo outings. The name plays on its catboat rig and small size (described as "a fathom wide, by two-plus long, and half a fathom deep"). Fit the sail with a single Reef and three reefpoints plus a clew and a tack cringle Cloth: 3.5-ounce Dacron (option-Cream colored Egyptian cotton- I am dreaming) Grommets: good size to fit 1/8 synthetic braid that is laced to gaff, mast and boom. outhaul is three parts of the same stuff. Option for Beetle-type hoops plus sail track on the gaff mast and boom. With small Gaff sails: Absolute minimum number of layers in tabling buildup and lightest acceptable sailcloth.
