Toronado 16
Description
The Toronado 16 (also spelled Tornado 16 or Tornado (Texas)) is a 16.42-foot centerboard dinghy designed as a compact, affordable daysailer and junior trainer. It was built in fiberglass by Fillip Mfg. (or associated small Texas builders) starting in 1967. Production numbers are not well documented but appear to have been modest, with surviving examples still found in the southern U.S. (particularly Texas and Gulf Coast areas). The boat features a simple, beamy hull for stability, a fractional sloop rig, and basic construction suited for club racing, family daysailing, or learning to sail in protected or coastal waters. It has a reputation for being durable and forgiving despite its light displacement.
