Trapper 28 (Trapper Sovereign 400)
Description
The Trapper 28 (also marketed as the Trapper Sovereign 400 or Viking 28 in some markets) is a 28-foot (LOA 28.17 ft / 8.59 m) masthead sloop designed by the renowned Canadian firm Cuthbertson & Cassian (C&C Design) in the late 1960s. It was built in fiberglass (solid laminate) by Anstey Yachts Ltd. (later renamed Trapper Yachts Ltd.) in Poole, England, starting around 1968–1970, with production continuing into the 1970s/early 1980s under Trapper Yachts after Anstey encountered financial issues and was taken over. Approximately 70 boats were completed in the UK as the Trapper 28 (plus a related Canadian Viking 28 production run of about 147 hulls by Ontario Yachts). The boat is a light-displacement fin-keel racer/cruiser with a spade rudder, emphasizing lively performance, good stability, and affordable coastal/offshore capability for its era. It features a practical layout for 4–5 people, solid construction, and a reputation for being a bargain performer in club racing or family cruising.
