Trifle Sloop
Description
The Trifle is a 12-foot sloop-rigged sailing dinghy designed by Fred P. Bingham and featured in his book Boat Joinery & Cabinetmaking Simplified. This design was specifically created for Adult Education programs, emphasizing accessible construction methods for amateur builders learning traditional boatbuilding techniques. Bingham, renowned for his yacht joinery expertise and author of the classic Practical Yacht Joinery, designed the Trifle as an educational project rather than a commercial production boat, with no documented production quantities since it was intended as a plans-built design for learning environments. The boat features plywood construction suitable for novice builders, a simple sloop rig configuration optimized for protected waters, and represents Bingham's philosophy of making boatbuilding accessible through clear instructional methods and manageable project complexity.
