Valiant 40 Pilothouse
Description
The Valiant 40 sailboat, designed by Bob Perry, was built by Uniflite Inc. (USA) from 1973-1984 (hull #101 to ~249, ~159 boats) and then by Valiant Yachts (USA) from 1984-1992 (~41 more boats, total ~200), using fiberglass construction with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder; early models (hulls ~120-249) suffered osmotic blistering from fire-retardant resin later corrected with isophthalic resin. Pilothouse version is renowned as a pioneering bluewater performance cruiser with cutter rig, canoe stern, moderate displacement.
