Description
The Madeira 44 (also known as Van de Stadt Madeira 44 or design № 474) is a modern ocean-cruising yacht designed by the Dutch naval architect E. G. van de Stadt (van de Stadt Design / Van de Stadt & Partners). It was released as a stock plans design in the mid-1990s for amateur or professional builders, with completed hulls constructed primarily in steel, aluminum, or wood/epoxy (round-bilge or multi-chine with quick-assembly method). There was no single mass-production builder; examples were semi-custom or one-off projects (e.g., by Dutch yards like Jachtbouw Folmer or individual owners), resulting in a relatively small number of boats built. It is intended as a fast, safe, and comfortable long-distance cruiser with space for extended liveaboard use (typically 2–3 couples), emphasizing shorthanded sailing, good payload, and minimal maintenance in some builds.
