Vector 39

Vector 39

Description

The Vector 39 is a distinctive double-ender cutter (sometimes described as a canoe-stern or fantail cruiser) designed by Jay Benford (design #159) in 1977. It was built in small numbers (likely fewer than a dozen completed hulls) by Vector Marine Associates in Kent, Washington, between roughly 1977 and 1980. The hulls were constructed using Airex foam-cored fiberglass (a relatively advanced lightweight sandwich method for the era), with the plug and tooling created by skilled shipwrights. It is a rare, semi-custom pocket bluewater-style cruiser emphasizing character, seaworthiness, and traditional aesthetics in a manageable size.
