Vision 660 (DS 22)
Description
The Vision 660 (also known as the DS 22 after it was later sold/marketed under that name) is a small, trailerable keel/centerboard sloop designed by Canadian naval architect Bruce Kirby (the same designer who created the Laser) in the mid-1970s. It was built by Simpson Manufacturing (or associated Canadian builders like Diller-Schwill Yachts) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with fewer than 100 boats produced. The design was aimed at affordable family daysailing, club racing, and light coastal cruising, offering a good balance of performance and simplicity in a compact package. It features a fractional or masthead sloop rig, a relatively beamy hull for its length, and a lifting keel/centerboard for shallow draft and easy trailering. The boat is known for lively, responsive sailing in light-to-moderate winds, quick tacking, and forgiving handling suitable for beginners or small crews. It is not intended for offshore or heavy weather but excels as a fun daysailer or weekend pocket cruiser on inland lakes, bays, or protected coastal waters.
