Watkins 27

Watkins 27

Description

The Watkins 27 (also known as the W27) is an American fiberglass cruising sloop designed by naval architect Walter Scott as the only non-in-house design for the company. It was built by Watkins Yachts of Clearwater, Florida, and introduced in 1977 as a value-oriented coastal cruiser positioned as a sturdy, better-equipped alternative to contemporaries like the Catalina 27. Production ran from 1977 to 1984, during which approximately 514 boats were completed (making it the company's most successful and longest-produced model out of their total output of about 1,280 sailboats), with a Mk II version introduced around 1979 featuring an improved outward-flanged hull-to-deck joint, more open interior, and all-opening portlights following a company sale and merger.
