Watkins 32

Watkins 32

Description

The Watkins 32 is a rare American fiberglass cruising sloop designed by William H. Tripp Jr. as a value-oriented coastal (and potentially moderate offshore) cruiser. It was built by Watkins Yachts of Clearwater, Florida, with the hull derived from modified molds originally from the Columbia 32 (acquired via the defunct Auroraglas/Columbia assets). Introduced in 1982, the model featured solid hand-laid fiberglass construction, a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for tracking and grounding protection, encapsulated ballast, an aluminum deck flange/toe rail joint, all-opening ports, teak bulkheads, and a practical interior with 6'5" headroom. Production was extremely limited, running from 1982 to 1984, during which only 8 boats were completed before the design received a major upgrade—including a reverse transom and revised interior—and was reintroduced as the Watkins 33 in 1984.
