Watkins Seawolf 33
Description
The Watkins 33 (also marketed as the Seawolf 33) is an American fiberglass cruising sloop designed by William H. Tripp Jr. in collaboration with Watkins Yachts. It was built by Watkins Yachts of Clearwater, Florida, as a direct evolution of the short-lived Watkins 32, featuring a reverse transom (changed from the nearly vertical transom of the 32), a redesigned interior with more teak paneling and enclosed storage, and other upgrades to better align with the flagship Watkins 36 aesthetic while becoming the new largest model in the line. Introduced in 1984, it offered solid hand-laid fiberglass construction, a shoal-draft fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for stability and shallow-water access (ideal for coastal and Bahamas cruising), encapsulated ballast, an aluminum deck flange/toe rail, all-opening ports, and a practical layout with good headroom and volume for a boat of its size. Production ran from 1984 to 1989, during which only 47 boats were completed (making it a relatively rare model within Watkins' total output of roughly 1,280 sailboats before the company ceased sailboat production), after which the design was discontinued.
