Wauquiez Pilot Saloon 60
Description
The Wauquiez Pilot Saloon 60 (also referred to as the Wauquiez 60 or PS 60) is a large French fiberglass bluewater cruising sloop/pilothouse yacht designed by renowned British naval architect Ed Dubois. It was built by Chantier Wauquiez (Henri Wauquiez shipyard) in Neuville-en-Ferrain, France, around 1992–1994 as an early and iconic example of the "Pilot Saloon" concept pioneered by the yard, featuring a raised saloon with excellent visibility, protected helm station inside the pilothouse, and a secure cockpit for offshore comfort and safety. Construction used GRP (fiberglass) with foam core in some areas, a fin-and-bulb keel, and high-quality joinery (often maple or teak interiors); it offered twin diesel engines (typically 2 × 80 hp Yanmar or Nanni) for redundancy on long passages, generous tankage, in-mast furling mainsail, powerful rod-rigged spar (often 3-spreader Marechal aluminum), and luxurious accommodations for 6–7 in 3 cabins plus saloon/crew space with multiple heads and showers. Production was very limited (exact total unknown but low, with documented hulls including #5), reflecting its status as a semi-custom, high-end bluewater cruiser rather than a mass-produced model.
