Wauquiez Centurion 61S
Description
The Wauquiez Centurion 61S (also referred to as the Centurion 61 or Wauquiez 61S, and sometimes linked to the earlier Centurion 59/60 series) is a large French fiberglass bluewater performance cruising sloop designed by Ed Dubois. It was built by Chantier Wauquiez (Henri Wauquiez shipyard, later under Olivier Prouvost) in Neuville-en-Ferrain, France, around 1992 as a refined evolution of the Centurion 59, emphasizing elegant lines, speed, and offshore capability with high-quality GRP construction, a fin keel (with standard shoal and optional deeper draft variants), spade rudder, and robust rig. The model features a powerful masthead sloop configuration (often with in-mast furling options), generous tankage, a Yanmar diesel auxiliary (typically 200 hp in documented examples), and luxurious accommodations for 8+ berths in an owners-version layout with multiple heads. Production was very limited—likely a handful of hulls as a semi-custom or low-volume flagship—reflecting its status as a rare, high-end cruiser built just before or during the shipyard's transition period.
