Wauquiez Pretorien 35
Description
The Wauquiez Pretorien 35 (also known as the Prétorien 35) is a French fiberglass cruising sloop designed by the British naval architecture firm Holman & Pye. It was built by Chantier Henri Wauquiez (Henri Wauquiez shipyard) in Mouvaux/Neuville-en-Ferrain, France, as a quality-oriented cruiser-racer with solid hand-laid fiberglass construction, a fin keel on a deep stub with skeg-hung rudder, lead ballast, and a conservative yet capable masthead sloop rig. Introduced in 1979, it features a raked entry, reverse transom for a long waterline, relatively high ballast ratio for stiffness, and a practical interior with good accommodations for coastal or offshore cruising (including a noted circumnavigation by owners Hal and Margaret Roth aboard their boat Whisper). Production ran from 1979 to 1987 (with some sources noting activity through 1986), during which 212 boats were completed—a solid run for this premium model before the company faced financial challenges and later shifts in ownership.
