West Wight Potter 19 / P 19
Description
The West Wight Potter 19 (also known as the P19 or originally marketed as the HMS 18) is a compact American fiberglass trailerable pocket cruiser designed by Herb Stewart. It was built by International Marine (later Potter Yachts) in Inglewood, California, as an enlarged evolution of the West Wight Potter 14/15 series, emphasizing extreme shoal draft, positive flotation for unsinkability, and simple beach-cruising capability. Introduced around 1971 (with consistent production from 1979 onward), the model features solid GRP construction, a hard-chine hull for form stability, a 300–370 lb galvanized steel lifting keel (daggerboard-style, winch-operated), transom-hung rudder, fractional sloop rig, and a basic cuddy cabin with sitting headroom (~5 ft), two V-berths, and space for a portable head—ideal for 2–4 people on weekend or coastal micro-cruises. Production continued for decades until around 2015–2017, during which more than 1,600 boats were completed, making it one of the most successful and longest-running small trailerable cruisers in the U.S.
