Westkap 23
Description
The Westkap 23 (also known as the Westkapp 23, Westkapp Sailor 23, or IW-23) is a small Swedish fiberglass cruising sloop designed by naval architect Ivar Waldemar Åkesson in the mid-1960s (original design around 1962–1964 as the F 18, later renamed and updated with a new deck and interior). It was built by IW-Varvet (a Swedish yard) as a compact, affordable pocket cruiser with solid GRP construction, a long keel (iron ballast), masthead sloop rig, and a simple, practical layout offering 4 berths in one cabin plus a basic galley—well-suited for coastal daysailing, weekend cruising, or light charter use in protected or moderate waters. A variant was also built in Norway under the Westkapp name. Production ran until 1969, during which 217 boats were completed (a respectable number for a small European yard in that era).
