Westsail 36 Ketch
Description
The Westsail 36 Ketch is a rare American fiberglass bluewater cruising ketch derived from the successful Westsail 32/36 family lineage, featuring heavy-displacement, full-keel construction with solid hand-laid fiberglass hull, encapsulated ballast, skeg-hung rudder, and a traditional ketch rig for versatile sail handling in heavy weather. It was built by Westsail Corporation (USA) as part of their "overbuilt" offshore cruiser series, emphasizing strength, sea-kindliness, and liveaboard comfort with a practical interior layout offering good headroom and accommodations for extended passage making. Production of the Westsail 36 series (including sloop and ketch variants) was limited and occurred primarily in the mid-to-late 1970s during the company's active years before its eventual financial difficulties; exact numbers for the ketch specifically are very low (a small fraction of the overall 36-foot models produced), making these boats uncommon today.
