Whistler 32 Cutter
Description
The Whistler 32 (offered in both cutter and cat-ketch variants) is an American fiberglass performance cruising yacht designed by C. W. (Chuck) Paine. It was built by Able Marine Inc. (founded by master boatbuilder Crozer Fox) in Southwest Harbor, Maine, as a high-quality, semi-custom cruiser emphasizing excellent seakeeping, windward ability, and comfortable accommodations. Introduced around 1980–1981, the design features solid fiberglass construction, a keel/centerboard underbody for versatility in shoal or deeper waters, and a practical interior with varnished cherry or teak trim, spacious layout, and good headroom. The cutter version provides versatile heavy-weather sail handling with a powerful foretriangle, while the unstayed cat-ketch offers simplicity and easy single-handing (though Paine later noted the cutter went to windward better). Production was low-volume and short-lived (primarily early 1980s), resulting in a modest total number built before Able Marine shifted focus.
