Wilderness 30
Description
The Wilderness 30 is a lightweight American fiberglass performance cruising/racing sloop designed by Chuck Burns as a ULDB-inspired coastal and occasional offshore boat with a fin keel and spade rudder. It was built by Wilderness Boat Works of Santa Cruz, California, starting in 1979 (with variants including the 30 IB, 30 SX, and 30 SX FR offering different sail plans and interior options). The model features hand-laid fiberglass construction, a relatively light displacement for its size, high sail area-to-displacement ratio for spirited performance, and a practical but minimalist interior layout suited to short-handed sailing or weekend cruising. Production was low-volume and short-lived (primarily late 1970s to early 1980s), with only a handful of boats completed before the company ceased operations around 1986.
