Willard
Description
The Willard sailboat, also known as the Willard 30 or 8-Ton Cutter, is a heavy-displacement, full-keeled cutter-rigged cruising sailboat adapted from the Vega 30 trawler hull by The Willard Company (Willard Marine) of Costa Mesa, California. William Crealock handled the sailing model adaptation for the company (sometimes credited jointly as Willard/Crealock). Built as one of five variants of the Vega 30 series (alongside power and motorsailer versions), the sailboat variant entered production around 1973–1975, with approximately 30 hulls completed by 1976 before production ended. The solid fiberglass hull construction emphasizes strength and seaworthiness for bluewater cruising, featuring a long keel, internal iron ballast, and a cutter rig with bowsprit that provides a traditional, capable offshore profile on a compact 30-foot platform.
