Chesapeake Marine Design Windward 15

Chesapeake Marine Design Windward 15

Description

The Windward 15 is a popular plywood daysailer/beach cruiser designed by Karl A. Stambaugh of Chesapeake Marine Design (CMD). Offered as plans for amateur builders (no factory production), it draws inspiration from traditional Chesapeake Bay crabbing skiff/workboat forms, emphasizing simplicity, stability, shallow draft for beaching, and a spacious cockpit suitable for family/friends or cruising gear. Construction is typically "glue-and-screw" plywood (not stitch-and-glue), making it accessible for homebuilders with moderate skill. An unknown but relatively high number of hulls have been completed since its introduction, as it is frequently cited as one of CMD’s most popular small-boat designs. Features include a large, comfortable cockpit, small cuddy or forward deck area, outboard motor capability on the transom, and a simple rig optimized for easy handling in protected or coastal waters. A stretched variant (e.g., Jim Luton’s “Cricket,” extended to ~16 ft) has also been built by some owners.
