Chesapeake Marine Design Windward 28 Sail Plan II

Chesapeake Marine Design Windward 28 Sail Plan II

Description

The Windward 28 Sail Plan II (by Karl A. Stambaugh / Chesapeake Marine Design) is the gaff-rigged ketch variant of this extended shallow-draft plywood cruising sailboat. While Sail Plan I uses a Bermudan (Marconi) ketch rig with triangular mainsail and mizzen, Sail Plan II features a traditional gaff mainsail (four-sided) plus a mizzen (typically also gaff or Bermudan in balance) and a jib, giving a classic workboat/ Chesapeake aesthetic with a lower center of effort for better light-air performance and easier handling in a breeze. The Windward 28 is a plans-only design for amateur builders using glue-and-screw plywood construction (½" plywood on bulkheads and straight frames with epoxy). It offers generous accommodations for 4 (V-berth, galley, settees, and head space) in a trailerable, beachable hull suited to thin-water coastal cruising.
