WYLIE 40

WYLIE 40

Description

The Wylie 40 is a 40-foot performance racer/cruiser designed by the Wylie Design Team (led by California yacht designer Thomas Wylie), known for lightweight, fast hulls with strong emphasis on light-air performance and all-around speed suitable for coastal and offshore racing. It follows in the lineage of Wylie's earlier designs such as the Wylie 38/39 series, featuring a sleek, low-freeboard profile with a fin keel and spade rudder. Boats were typically built in fiberglass (often cored construction) on a semi-custom or one-off basis, with production numbers very limited—likely just a handful of examples rather than series production, as evidenced by individual boats like Wylie Coyote still actively racing in events such as PHRF and distance races today. These boats deliver a generous sail plan for excellent light-air speed while maintaining versatility for performance cruising or club racing.
