Description
The X-342 Fractional Rig (also known as the X Boat 342 Fractional Rig or X-342 Frac) is a versatile 3/4 fractional sloop-rigged cruiser-racer designed by Niels Jeppesen for X-Yachts of Denmark. It was built from 1988 to 1994 with a total of 105 hulls completed, making it a moderately produced model in the brand’s performance lineup. The design capitalized on declining IOR influence by creating a stiffer, more powerful yacht than earlier IOR-focused models like the X-102, with a focus on family-friendly cruising combined with strong racing potential; it features fiberglass sandwich construction, a fin keel with lead ballast (cast iron/lead option), semi-elliptical spade rudder, and a keel-stepped aluminum mast. Most buyers selected the fractional rig over the optional masthead version for better sail trim options and performance.
