X Boat 372 Prestige Masthead Rig
Description
The X-372 Masthead Rig (also known as the X-372 Prestige) is the more cruising-oriented variant of the versatile performance cruiser-racer designed by Niels Jeppesen for X-Yachts of Denmark. Produced from 1987 to 1992 alongside the Sport fractional-rig version, with a total of 120 hulls built across both configurations, the Prestige model featured a masthead sloop rig, wheel steering (standard), and options like teak decks for a more traditional, comfortable setup favored by owners prioritizing ease of handling in heavier air or family cruising. It shares the same fiberglass construction with internal steel frame, fin keel with lead/iron ballast, and spade rudder as the Sport model, offering stiff, responsive performance with practical three-cabin accommodations suitable for fast coastal or occasional offshore sailing. The masthead rig provides a balanced sail plan with larger overlapping genoas and a smaller mainsail compared to the fractional version, resulting in forgiving handling and good all-around versatility.
