X Boat 402

X Boat 402

Description

The X-402 (sometimes referred to as X Boat 402-2 in certain databases) is a stylish fractional sloop-rigged (with an optional masthead variant) performance cruiser-racer designed by Niels Jeppesen for X-Yachts of Denmark. Produced from 1984 to 1990, it marked the yard’s first 40-footer and a shift toward more luxury-oriented accommodations while retaining strong racing credentials; the hull was derived from the successful X-1 Ton pure racer (which won the One Ton Cup in 1986). A total of 79 hulls were built, offered with a choice of rigs—the fractional version being the standard/performance setup, while the masthead proved more popular with cruising buyers. Construction features fiberglass with a fin keel (deep draft option ~7.3–8.0 ft) and spade rudder, delivering a stiff, fast, and comfortable boat with twin aft double cabins, a practical interior for 6–10 berths, and rod rigging as standard.
