X Boat 412
Description
The X-412 is a successful masthead sloop-rigged performance cruiser-racer designed by Niels Jeppesen for X-Yachts of Denmark. It was the first model in X-Yachts’ “Performance Cruiser” range, launched in 1990 (with production continuing through 2003, including MkII and MkIII updates that refined the keel, rudder, and interior options). A total of 252 hulls were built, making it one of the brand’s longer-running and more popular models of the era. The design features a modern (for its time) hull with moderate sheer, wide transom, fiberglass construction with a substantial galvanized steel floor frame for rig and keel loads, an L-shaped fin keel with bulb, and a spade rudder. It balances comfortable cruising accommodations (typically three-cabin layout with a large owner’s cabin forward) with solid racing potential under IMS/IRC rules, offering stiff, responsive handling and good all-around performance.
