X Boat 95 Masthead Rig

X Boat 95 Masthead Rig

Description

The X-95 Masthead Rig (also known as the X Boat 95 Masthead Sloop) is the less common optional rig configuration of the popular performance cruiser-racer designed by Niels Jeppesen for X-Yachts of Denmark. Produced from 1982 to 1988 with a total of 153 hulls built across both fractional and masthead options, the masthead version was offered primarily as a simpler, more cruising-friendly alternative to the dominant 7/8 fractional rig. It carries its sail area lower on the mast, resulting in a reduced heeling moment and easier handling with larger overlapping genoas and a smaller mainsail—advantages noted by X-Yachts for less experienced crews or heavier-air sailing.
