Ericson Yachts

Ericson Yachts was an innovative American sailboat manufacturer renowned for building high-quality, performance-oriented fiberglass yachts during the golden age of fiberglass production in the 1960s–1980s. Founded in Southern California, the company emphasized sleek designs, solid construction, and racer-cruiser versatility, collaborating closely with naval architect Bruce King on most models. Ericson produced over 1,000 boats across dozens of models, blending speed for club racing with comfort for coastal and offshore cruising. Though the company ceased operations in 1990, its designs remain highly sought after for their durability and timeless appeal—many are still sailing worldwide, with molds occasionally revived by other builders like Pacific Seacraft.
1963–1965Founded in Costa Mesa, CA, by Jenkins and Handy (former Columbia Yachts employees), using scavenged molds from defunct builders. Early "eclectic" models like a modified Carl Alberg 26' and W.B. Crealock 32'. Filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after ~2 years.1965–1968Acquired by Mark Pitman (president) and Del Walton (VP sales). Bruce King joins as primary designer; introduces icons like E-30, E-32 Scorpion, E-35-2, E-23, and E-41.1968–1971Sold to Pacific American Industries (Chairman: Roland Mayotte). Pitman and Walton stay on; expands production with King's IOR-influenced racers.1971–1984Bought by CML Group. Produces popular mid-size cruisers (E-25, E-38).
